Are issues at home or with your peers affecting your success in school?
Many factors impact how successful you may be in school. Relationships, your mental state and habits you practice outside of school hours can have a tremendous impact on your school work. Teens make decisions and develop habits during their school years that have lifelong consequences and can affect their learning.
Mental health problems affect one in five young people at any given time, and an estimated two-thirds of young people are not receiving the help they need. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15 and 24, and at least 90% of those who commit suicide have a diagnosable mental illness that could be helped by counseling or medication.
The Student Assistance Program provides professional, trained prevention and intervention specialists in all Windham County high schools and most middle schools. They serve as resources for students and act as liaisons between them, the school and other service providers. They promote the health and well-being of students through the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use as well coordinate support groups.
Case Management can serve youth ages 11 to 21 years old. Our focus is on preventing and alleviating homelessness, with priority given to youth who are currently homeless, at high risk of homelessness or living in unstable or unsafe housing.
Intensive Family-Based Services will provide a family counselor to mediate issues at school or with your family to assist with parenting and communication skills and help you access other local resources.
