What is the objective of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program?
To provide a fun friendship to assist children and help them realize their talents, abilities and their importance as individuals.
What are the benefits of a child having a Big?
While having fun, Littles often improve their self-confidence, academics, and social skills after being matched with a Big. Research shows that having a Big Brother or Big Sister can significantly impact a child’s life.
Who are Big Brothers and Big Sisters?
Our Bigs are just as diverse as the children we serve! The one thing they share is a sincere interest in being a friend and mentor to a child. All potential Bigs go through a comprehensive screening including interviews, reference checks and criminal background checks.
Who are the Little Brothers and Little Sisters?
The children we typically serve are between the ages of 6 and 17 who could benefit emotionally, socially or educationally from this kind of one-on-one relationship.
What do matches do together?
The most important thing a Big can do for a Little is to be a friend –– to listen, to give advice if asked and to have fun. Many Bigs and Littles engage in simple activities like cooking, taking a hike, shooting hoops and just hanging out. Please look at our calendar to see a list of activities Big Brothers Big Sisters is offering this month.
How do I enroll a child?
After receiving a completed application, BBBS staff will meet with a parent and speak with them about which program is appropriate for the child, who must be accepted into the program in order to be matched. It is very important that the child wants a Big and that the parent or guardian is willing to fully participate in the application process and maintain ongoing communication with BBBS staff.

We’re here to help!

BBBS staff does the screening of adults and children for the program, assigns matches, provides orientation for new volunteers and provides ongoing match support. The staff is willing to assist Bigs and Littles in any way possible and maintains regular contact with both members of the match to help with any issues that may arise.

“My daughter was just thrilled about her first meeting with her Big Sister. She came home with her BBBS sticker plastered across her chest and telling us all very loudly how great it was.”
