Melina Palumbo
I, was born and raised in Plainfield Vermont. I attended undergraduate at Warren Wilson College just outside of Ashevlle North Carolina and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Global Studies. I lived in and around Asheville NC for 10 years teaching West African dance to youth and adults. As a youth arts educator I focused on understanding cultural difference and the ways different cultures and individuals express themselves through dance. As an Adult dance instructor I led workshops, classes and ran my own dance company that educated the population of Western North Carolina at large about the diverse artistic traditions of Western Africa. I returned to Vermont this past fall to pursue my Masters At SIT in a self designed degree program focusing on youth, arts, education and leadership. it is hope that my work will help to better prepare young people for the challenges (environmental and social) that face them, through alternative and creative learning models that are multicultural and artistic.
