About BBBS:  History, Vision and Mission

bbbs logoBig Brothers Big Sisters of Windham County (BBBS), the cornerstone program of Youth Services, was launched in 1975. Part of a larger network of agencies of The Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, BBBS is dedicated to matching adult volunteers with children in a one-on-one mentoring relationship. By offering programs and services that are flexible, accessible, supportive and fun for everyone, we aim to provide the most meaningful and life-changing connections between our mentors (Bigs) and our mentees (Littles).

To ensure that every match between our Bigs and Littles is comfortable, enjoyable and beneficial for everyone involved, the program assigns an experienced case manager for every match we make. Once a match has been made, our case managers will follow up with both Bigs and Littles to make sure that the match is a good “fit” for everyone. We also encourage our Bigs and Littles to contact our case managers any time they have a question or a concern or need any other type of support regarding their matches.

Because we believe that our Bigs are the program’s greatest agents to bringing positive change in a Little’s life, we are dedicated to giving our volunteers tools that will help them interact with their Little in the most effective way possible. We provide trainings that address both the needs and concerns of Bigs and Littles in the program.

Over the years, we have served 2700 children in Windham County.

We have been recognized by:

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of America 2000 Hall of Fame for doubling the number of children served

Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council’s 2001 Best Practice Honorable Mention

Vision

To provide successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools and stronger communities for all.

Mission

To help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

My name is Justin.  I am in third grade and I want a Big Brother who is a human being, but can fly.  I like making stuff out of cardboard.
