Program Highlights Highlights of the services the agency's programs provided during fiscal year 2006 follow: The Big Brothers Big Sisters Program served 193 youth during the past year, 88 of those served were community-based matches; 105 of them were school-based matches. Results indicate 79% of youth increased their self-confidence, 74% increased their ability to express their feelings, 67% increased in their ability to make decisions, and 66% increased their academic performance and use of school resources. The Substance Abuse Counseling Program served 91 individuals. Alcohol Safety screenings were administered to an additional 128 young people, 25% were referred for a full assessment and/or treatment. The Student Assistance Programs six counselors provided services in every region in Windham County, assisting over 1,274 Windham County area youth in group activities and one-on-one meetings. The Intensive Family-Based Services (IFBS) Program provided family therapy and counseling to 40 families. The Street Outreach and Peer Outreach workers provided assistance to young people on over 2000 occasions. They also distributed the "Windham in Your Wallet" resource guide and made 192 referrals to area organizations. The Transitional Services Program helped 49 at-risk youth (ages 16-21) by providing independent living skills support and counseling to teach them the skills necessary to live on their own. The Runaway Program and Youth and Family Counseling One hundred seventy-one youth and their families accessed runaway program services that included therapeutic case management, individual, group and family therapy. Thirteen individuals benefited from mediation services. There were 45 calls to the 24/7 Crisis Response line. Emergency Housing in our Host Homes provided thirteen nights of safe housing. The Juvenile and Adult Court Diversion Program handled 190 new cases as well as 115 cases in the Alcohol Safety Program. The The Juvenile Restorative Justice Project provided support to 78 youth on probation and in the custody of the Department of Children & Families to meet the requirements of their probation contracts.
